- Take the US-64 E/NC-28 Ramp:
Use the right lane to take the US-64 E/NC-28 ramp towards Highlands/Franklin. - Turn onto Highlands Road:
Turn right onto NC-28 S/US-64 E/Highlands Rd. Stay on Highlands Road until you see Gold Mine Road.
Important Note: Your GPS may suggest turning right onto Peeks Creek Road as a shortcut. While it’s shorter, this road is very narrow and winding, making it harder to navigate (especially if you do not have 4WD). Instead, continue on Highlands Road until you reach Gold Mine Road. The extra 10 minutes will reward you with a gorgeous scenic drive—trust us, it’s worth it! - Turn right onto Gold Mine Road and continue straight. Eventually, the paved road will turn into a gravel road. Continue on Gold Mine Rd. for about 10 more minutes.
- You’ll see a gate with the sign Highlands Treehouse Retreat – you’ve arrived!
- Follow the signs to get to your treehouse. You will have a private parking spot near your treehouse.
From Highlands, NC
- Continue onto US-64 W/Franklin Rd.
- Turn left onto Gold Mine Rd.
- Turn right onto Gold Mine Road and continue straight. Eventually, the paved road will turn into a gravel road. Continue on Gold Mine Rd. for about 10 more minutes.
- You’ll see a gate with the sign Highlands Treehouse Retreat – you’ve arrived!
- Follow the signs to get to your treehouse. You will have a private parking spot near your treehouse.
Quick Tips
- 4-Wheel drive recommended: While 2-wheel drive will get you up to the property, if you have the option of a 4-wheel drive, we would recommend it for a smoother journey since it is a windy and rural mountain gravel road. The weather also affects the conditions of the road, so if it is snowing, icy, or heavy raining, 4-wheel drive will be necessary.
- Arrival before nightfall, if possible: Mountain roads can be challenging to navigate in the dark, especially if you’re not familiar with the area. Please keep this in mind and take caution if arriving in the evening.
